President Paul Kagame and his Republic of the Congo counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso, have discussed the need for African countries to develop homegrown solutions to the challenges facing the continent.
The two leaders held talks in Paris, France, on September 10 on the sidelines of the International Space Summit, where they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation.
According to the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, Kagame and Sassou Nguesso reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Rwanda and the Republic of the Congo.
The leaders also discussed the importance of advancing sustainable, Africa-led responses to the continent’s challenges, drawing on African countries’ own capabilities and interests.
Rwanda and the Republic of the Congo have maintained diplomatic and bilateral relations across several sectors. Rwanda opened its embassy in the Republic of the Congo in 2016 as part of efforts to deepen ties between the two countries.
In 2021, the two countries signed cooperation agreements covering security and military cooperation, higher education, land management, sustainable development, environmental protection and trade.
The agreements also include cooperation in air transport, aimed at expanding connectivity and strengthening economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
