The Minister of Local Government, Habimana Dominique, on April 22, 2026, met with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Rwanda, Gilles Cerutti, for discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Local Government, the talks focused on deepening existing partnerships and exploring new areas of collaboration, particularly in governance initiatives designed to improve service delivery and citizens’ livelihoods.

Rwanda and Switzerland share a diplomatic relationship spanning more than 65 years, established in 1960, and have continued to cooperate across key sectors including development, trade, and technology.

The partnership was further reinforced on November 20, 2025, when Switzerland officially opened its embassy in Kigali, a move seen as a milestone in strengthening diplomatic ties.

Both countries are also expected to expand cooperation under Switzerland’s new foreign policy framework for Africa covering the 2025–2028 period.

Current areas of collaboration include youth employment through technical and vocational education and training (TVET), sustainable agriculture, as well as joint efforts in nutrition improvement and primary healthcare services.
