Al Hilal SC and Al Merrikh SC are set to continue featuring in the Rwanda Premier League during the 2026/27 season following the release of the new league calendar.

The competition’s governing body confirmed that the upcoming season will feature 34 matchdays, an indication that the league will retain 18 teams instead of the traditional 16-club format.

The development signals that the two Sudanese giants, who joined Rwanda’s top flight after football activities in Sudan were disrupted by conflict, will remain part of the league for another campaign.

The 2026/27 season is scheduled to begin in September and conclude in May next year.

Meanwhile, the current 2025/26 campaign is nearing its climax, with clubs preparing for the 32nd round of fixtures this weekend out of the 34 scheduled league matches.

The domestic season is expected to end later this month, while the 2026 Peace Cup final is set to feature a highly anticipated showdown between APR FC and Rayon Sports FC.

Al Hilal SC have already secured the league’s honorary title after opening an unassailable lead at the top of the table, while APR FC remain the highest-ranked Rwandan side and are expected to receive the official league trophy alongside a prize of Frw80 million.

Both Sudanese clubs have since travelled to Sudan to participate in domestic playoff matches aimed at securing qualification for continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Some players from the two clubs, however, remained in Rwanda to complete the remaining BK Pro League fixtures before the season concludes.
