Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC Omdurman have parted ways with Congolese coach Guy Bukasa after just over a month at the club.
Al Hilal announced the decision on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following a short spell that saw Bukasa lead the team at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup in Kigali.
Bukasa joined Al Hilal on July 4 on a one-year contract, initially tasked with overseeing the development of the club’s youth teams and coaching the reserve side.
However, after the departure of Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf, Bukasa was handed responsibility for the senior team and led Al Hilal during the regional tournament.
Under Bukasa, Al Hilal reached the semi-finals of the Kagame Cup but lost to Kenya’s Gor Mahia on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The Sudanese side later defeated South Sudan’s Jamus SC 2-1 to finish third.
Bukasa’s five matches in the tournament produced three wins, one draw and one defeat, with Al Hilal scoring nine goals and conceding three.
The club had already appointed German coach Josef Zinnbauer as its new head coach. Al Hilal reportedly wanted Bukasa to remain within Zinnbauer’s technical staff, but the Congolese coach preferred to continue as a head coach.
The disagreement ultimately led to the termination of his contract.
Bukasa arrived at Al Hilal after coaching the Democratic Republic of Congo Under-23 national team.
The 39-year-old has also managed several clubs in DR Congo, including FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo, Dauphin Noir and AS Nyuki.
In Rwanda, he previously coached Rayon Sports, Gasogi United and AS Kigali.
His departure comes as Al Hilal prepare for the 2026/27 season, including their CAF Champions League campaign. The Sudanese club were drawn against Burundi champions Aigle Noir in the first preliminary round, with the first leg scheduled to be played in Burundi and the return leg in Kigali.
