Amagaju FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of Ugandan goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato on a one-year contract.

The 34-year-old joins the Nyamagabe-based club after ending a five-year spell at Mukura VS&L, where he became one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the Rwanda Premier League.

Ssebwato is the third player Amagaju FC have recruited from Mukura VS&L during the current transfer window, following Nigerian forward Ayilara Samson Oladosu and Democratic Republic of Congo defender Nzau Dimbumba Jordan.

The club has also appointed former Mukura VS&L head coach Nshimiyimana Canisius to lead the team in the upcoming 2026/27 season.

The Ugandan goalkeeper leaves Mukura after completing the one-year contract extension he signed last season. He had renewed his stay after a possible move to APR FC failed to go through.

APR FC had targeted Ssebwato following his outstanding performances in the 2024/25 season, when he was named Rwanda Premier League Goalkeeper of the Year.

Before joining Mukura VS&L, Ssebwato featured for several clubs, including Kenya’s Sofapaka FC and Uganda’s Bright Stars FC, Sports Club Villa and Onduparaka FC.
