APR FC delivered a commanding performance to defeat arch-rivals Rayon Sports FC 4–1 and claim the 2025 FERWAFA Super Cup in a thrilling encounter played on Saturday evening, January 10, 2026 at a packed Amahoro Stadium.

The emphatic victory marked APR FC’s return to Super Cup glory against their fiercest rivals, ending a long wait since their last triumph over Rayon Sports in the competition back in 2002.

APR FC asserted control from the opening minutes, pressing aggressively and forcing Rayon Sports onto the back foot. While Rayon Sports showed early intent through Tony Kitoga, their momentum was quickly halted as APR FC took charge of possession and tempo.

The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, when Rayon goalkeeper Kwizera Olivier fumbled a routine ball, allowing William Togui to capitalize and fire APR FC into the lead.

Buoyed by the opener, APR FC continued to attack with confidence. Their pressure paid off again in the 42nd minute, as Ronald Ssekiganda rose above the defense to head home a well-delivered cross from Memel Dao, sending APR FC into halftime with a deserved 2–0 lead.

Tactical changes, same outcome

Rayon Sports head coach Bruno Ferry had come under scrutiny even before kickoff for starting six new signings, many of whom had only trained with the team for a few days. The absence of experienced players such as Abedie, Tambwe Gloire, and Fall Ngange further exposed the team’s lack of cohesion.

Despite improved ball possession and attacking intent in the second half, Rayon Sports struggled to convert their chances. APR FC goalkeeper Ishimwe Pierre remained composed, notably denying Kitoga after a powerful effort in the 62nd minute.

APR FC effectively sealed the contest in the 70th minute, when Dauda Yussif showcased individual brilliance—regaining possession after a deflection, driving into the box, and calmly chipping the ball over Kwizera Olivier to make it 3–0.

Late goals add drama, not doubt

Rayon Sports managed a consolation goal in stoppage time through Ndikumana Asman, briefly lifting hopes among their supporters. However, those hopes were swiftly extinguished when substitute striker Mamadou Sy struck APR FC’s fourth goal moments later, underlining the gulf in quality on the night.

The final whistle confirmed a resounding 4–1 victory, sparking celebrations as fireworks lit up the night sky and APR FC players lifted the Super Cup in front of their jubilant supporters. The trophy was dedicated to Honorary Chairman Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, the club’s leadership, and its fans.

This was the fourth Super Cup meeting between the two sides. While Rayon Sports won the most recent clash in 2023, they remain winless against APR FC at the newly renovated 45,000-seat Amahoro Stadium.

For APR FC, the triumph was more than just silverware, it was a powerful statement of intent and a reminder of their dominance in Rwanda’s most intense football rivalry.
