Tanzanian side Azam FC has arrived in Kigali for a pre-season training camp as the club steps up preparations for the 2026/27 campaign, which includes participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Coached by Florent Ibenge, Azam FC departed Dar es Salaam on Friday, July 31, and is expected to spend the coming weeks in Rwanda as part of its build-up to the new season.
The club has become a regular visitor to Rwanda over the past three years. Its most recent stay came in the summer of 2025, when it featured in a pre-season tournament organized by APR FC ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Azam FC finished as runners-up behind Police FC, while AS Kigali and APR FC placed third and fourth respectively.
The Tanzanian outfit also visited Rwanda twice in 2024. In July, it accepted an invitation from Rayon Sports to headline Rayon Day, the club’s annual season launch, after concluding part of its pre-season preparations in Morocco.
Azam FC defeated Rayon Sports 1-0 in the exhibition match played at Kigali Pele Stadium.
A month later, the club returned to Kigali for the second leg of its CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie against APR FC. Despite winning the first leg 1-0 in Tanzania, Azam FC lost 2-0 in Rwanda and was eliminated 2-1 on aggregate.
The club’s friendly schedule during its latest stay in Rwanda has yet to be confirmed, although Gasogi United is among the teams expected to face the visitors.
Azam FC joins fellow Tanzanian clubs Simba SC and Singida Black Stars, who are in Rwanda for the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup. Sudan’s Al Hilal SC Omdurman and South Sudan’s Jamus SC are also in the country, combining their participation in the regional tournament with preparations for the upcoming season.
