The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has revamped the Super Cup format, expanding the competition from two teams to four in a move aimed at increasing competitiveness.
The federation has invited the top four teams from the 2025/26 Rwanda Premier League season — APR FC, Rayon Sports, Kiyovu SC and Police FC — to compete for this year’s Super Cup title.
The tournament will take place from August 22 to August 28, 2026, at Amahoro Stadium, with the competition adopting a knockout format.
In the semi-finals, APR FC will face Kiyovu SC at 3:00 pm, while Rayon Sports will meet Police FC at 7:00 pm. The winners of both matches will advance to the final scheduled for August 28 at 6:00 pm.
The revised format marks the first time the Super Cup will feature four teams. Previously, the competition was played between only two sides — the Rwanda Premier League champions and the Peace Cup winners.
APR FC are the defending champions after defeating Rayon Sports 4-1 in the previous edition.
FERWAFA had previously indicated plans to change the format during a media briefing ahead of the last Super Cup edition, held on December 22, 2026, at its headquarters in Remera, Kigali.
Meanwhile, the federation has launched a bidding process for companies interested in designing and producing a new Super Cup trophy that will become the competition’s permanent symbol, replacing the different trophies used in previous editions.
