FERWAFA sacks Amavubi head coach Adel Amrouche

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has dismissed Amavubi head coach Adel Amrouche following a run of poor results.

In a statement, FERWAFA said the Algerian coach failed to meet performance expectations and did not fully comply with key contractual obligations, despite being given time to address the shortcomings.

Amrouche managed just one victory in eight matches during his tenure.

He was appointed in March 2025 on a two-year contract and worked alongside assistants Eric Nshimiyimana and Dr Carolin Braun.

Since taking charge of the national team, Amrouche’s training methods and the team’s overall performance had attracted criticism from fans and football stakeholders.

The decision comes as Rwanda prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, scheduled to begin in March 2026, ahead of the tournament to be co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. FERWAFA is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming weeks to steer Amavubi through the qualifiers.
