Gasogi United has formally questioned the Rwanda Premier League’s (RPL) decision to award a walkover to Rayon Sports after the team failed to appear for their scheduled match at Stade Amahoro at 10 p.m.
The club’s president, Kakooza Nkuliza Charles (KNC), stated that Gasogi United was not properly informed about the rescheduling of the game, challenging the league to provide the official communication. He emphasized that many fans and stakeholders are seeking clarity on the issue and demanded that the RPL produce the notification letter sent to the club.
RPL Chief Executive Officer Jules Karangwa said the league had approved Rayon Sports’ request to change the match venue and time and had copied Gasogi United on the notification via email.
Despite this, KNC insisted that the email does not constitute formal notification and that no official letter had been sent to Gasogi United. He called on the league to make the decision and the correspondence public, asserting that the club had been unfairly penalized.
Under league regulations, any changes to match date, time, or venue must be communicated to the teams and relevant authorities at least 48 hours before the game. While RPL maintains that this protocol was followed, Gasogi United disputes the legitimacy of the notification process, raising questions about procedural transparency and fairness.
The incident has sparked debate among fans and officials, highlighting the need for clear communication and accountability in Rwanda’s top-flight football.
