Anastase Uwizeyimana, 45, from Gatsibo District, was found dead by hanging on March 6, 2026, in what authorities suspect was a suicide linked to ongoing marital conflicts.

Uwizeyimana, who lived in Gisharara Village, Karubungo Cell, Gitoki Sector, had reportedly struggled with long-standing disputes with his wife, which neighbors say may have contributed to his death.

Doroteya Mutungirehe, a local resident, said, “They were constantly arguing, and he had even been threatened. It is tragic, but we never expected he would take his own life.” Another neighbor added, “He may have been unable to endure the conflicts at home and decided to end his life. Their relationship was extremely tense.”

Fulaha Frank, executive secretary of Gitoki Sector, confirmed that an investigation is underway. “The news of his death came around noon. While it appears to be a suicide, some residents reported suspicions of family involvement. The Rwanda Investigation Bureau has taken his wife and child for questioning,” he said.

Frank urged families facing conflict to seek help from authorities to resolve disputes safely, emphasizing that legal avenues exist to separate without tragedy.

The deceased’s body was taken to Ngarama Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
