The President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and spokesperson of the Forum of Political Organizations, Dr. Frank Habineza, has dismissed claims that the RPF-Inkotanyi suppresses political parties, describing them as undermining Rwanda’s image.

Speaking during an interview on Radio/TV10, Habineza said such allegations are misleading and disregard the country’s legal framework, which guarantees equality among all political organizations.

He emphasized that political parties in Rwanda operate independently and enjoy equal rights under the law.

Habineza noted that, over the past 32 years since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, political parties have contributed to rebuilding national unity, learning from the divisive politics that characterized the pre-Genocide period.

He recalled that some parties in the past were founded on ethnic and regional divisions, which fueled discrimination and played a role in the Genocide.

Rwanda’s Constitution prohibits political organizations from being based on ethnicity, religion, region, or any form of discrimination, and requires them to promote unity, democracy, and national cohesion.

Senator Dr. Frank Habineza said claims that the RPF-Inkotanyi suppresses political parties undermine Rwanda’s image.
