The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested journalist Gakuru Emmanuel, popularly known as Muzehe Gakuru, in connection with issuing a dishonored cheque.
RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry confirmed the arrest.
“It is true he was arrested after being summoned several times and refusing to appear to respond to allegations regarding a dishonored cheque worth 6,050,000 Rwandan francs.
We advise people to respond to RIB summons as part of investigations, as the law requires. Complying also gives a chance to be investigated without being detained, since RIB can reach you anytime if you ignore summons.”
Dr. Murangira added that the person who filed the complaint approached RIB after realizing that the cheque issued to them had bounced, prompting an official investigation.
Muzehe Gakuru is currently held at the Jabana RIB station while investigations continue, and his case will soon be referred to the prosecution.
The journalist, widely known for his work at Radio Flash FM, was at the time of his arrest working at Radio One.
