President Paul Kagame has arrived in Oman for a two-day working visit focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation between Rwanda and the Gulf state.
Kagame was received in Salalah on Monday by Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The two leaders held talks on strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between Rwanda and Oman.
The visit comes as relations between the two countries continue to gain momentum, with Rwanda and Oman broadening cooperation across trade, investment, aviation, port services and transport, technology, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and the digital economy.
In April 2025, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in telecommunications and promote the digital economy.
Further agreements were signed during Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe’s visit to Oman in January 2026, covering several areas of bilateral cooperation.
Air links between the two countries have also expanded. Oman Air launched direct flights between Muscat and Kigali on July 21, 2026, with two flights operating each week. The new route is expected to facilitate trade, tourism and closer people-to-people connections.
During his visit, Kagame is expected to hold further talks with Omani leaders on expanding bilateral cooperation and creating new opportunities for investment and trade.
The visit comes as Rwanda seeks to deepen economic partnerships in the Gulf, while Oman continues to strengthen its engagement with African economies.
Rwanda and Oman established diplomatic relations in 1982. Since then, their bilateral ties have developed around mutual respect and cooperation across multiple sectors.
