President Paul Kagame met Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, in Kigali on October 8, as both countries seek to expand cooperation across key sectors, including trade, security, education and technology.

The meeting took place at Village Urugwiro and followed the first session of the Rwanda-Senegal Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation, held in Kigali on October 7.

During the commission meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties in areas including security, education, sports, the economy, culture, technology, agriculture, health, tourism and investment.

The two countries signed 11 agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations, alongside cooperation documents covering technology and innovation, tourism, youth, culture and the arts, sports, higher education and research.

Both sides also established a framework for cooperation in criminal justice, particularly on the extradition of suspects and the transfer of convicted persons.

Economic cooperation was another priority, with both countries encouraging businesses to strengthen their links, explore investment opportunities and expand trade.

A Rwanda-Senegal Business Forum was also held, bringing together investors and private-sector representatives from both countries to identify new opportunities for commercial partnerships.

Rwanda and Senegal continue to pursue closer relations through agreements and joint initiatives intended to translate diplomatic ties into practical cooperation that benefits both countries.
