President Paul Kagame has sent his condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her family following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Hafidh, 76, died on Monday after an illness linked to a heart condition. He passed away at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.
In a message posted on X, Kagame expressed solidarity with President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania as they mourned the loss.
“My condolences to my sister, President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania following the passing of Hafidh Ameir Hassan,” Kagame said.
He said the Government and people of Rwanda were joining Tanzanians in mourning Hafidh and honouring his life and legacy.
“The Government and people of Rwanda join President Samia and our rothers and sisters in Tanzania as they mourn and remember the life and legacy of Hafidh Ameir Hassan,” he added.
The condolence message comes against the backdrop of close ties between Rwanda and Tanzania, with the two neighbouring countries maintaining strong political, economic and people-to-people relations.
Hafidh was an agricultural researcher and specialist who worked in agricultural research.
He married Samia Suluhu Hassan in 1978. The couple had four children—three sons and a daughter.
