President Paul Kagame has called on members of the RPF-Inkotanyi to prioritise building their lives and contributing to Rwanda’s development before pursuing leisure, saying personal enjoyment should be grounded in meaningful achievements.
Speaking at the RPF-Inkotanyi Political Bureau meeting at Intare Conference Arena, Kagame urged party members to focus on creating lasting value for themselves and the country rather than chasing entertainment without a solid foundation.
The meeting brought together more than 2,000 delegates, including RPF-Inkotanyi representatives from the national to village level, leaders of other political parties operating in Rwanda and invited guests. Discussions centred on the party’s strategic direction over the next three decades.
“I have nothing against vibes, but where do you stand? Before we get into the vibes, we should have something to stand on,” Kagame said.
“Don’t invest in vibes; invest in a foundation. If there is no foundation, it will eventually collapse.”
His remarks underscored the importance of investing in productive activities and long-term development before spending resources on recreation and lifestyle.
Kagame also warned young people against drug and substance abuse, including excessive alcohol consumption and tobacco use, saying the effects extend beyond individuals to their families and society.
He urged the youth to recognise their role in shaping Rwanda’s future and to take advantage of opportunities now rather than looking back later in life with regret over what they failed to accomplish.
“The responsibility of building tomorrow’s Rwanda rests with you,” he said, encouraging young people to focus on creating opportunities and making meaningful contributions while they still have the time to do so.
