A woman in Kigali has been arrested after a video showing her slapping and hitting her husband went viral on social media. The 25-second clip, recorded at night, shows the woman yelling at her husband while striking him three times and hitting him with a stick. The husband remains calm, asking her to take a motorcycle home.
Kigali police spokesperson Cip Wellars Gahonzire confirmed that the woman was arrested on February 25, 2026, in Mulindi Village, Ndera Sector. She is currently in custody at Ndera police station, and her case is being prepared for prosecution.
Cip Gahonzire said the assault stemmed from a domestic dispute over household property and urged the public to avoid resolving family conflicts through violence. He emphasized that such acts violate Rwandan cultural norms and that families should seek help from local authorities.
Before her arrest, the woman apologized on YouTube, claiming anger over her husband taking household money to a local drinking spot.
