The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested Hategekimana Silas, the Executive Secretary of Mageragere Sector in Nyarugenge District, on allegations of bribery and breach of professional secrecy linked to illegal mining activities.

According to RIB, Hategekimana is suspected of receiving payments between 2023 and 2024 from Rubazinda Callixte, the director of Calliane Company Ltd, in exchange for protection of illegal mining operations conducted without authorisation.

Investigators further allege that the suspect used his position to shield the illicit activities and, in some instances, sent warning messages to Rubazinda to avoid enforcement action.

Rubazinda Callixte has also been arrested as a co-suspect in the case.

RIB reiterated that corruption-related offences are not time-barred, stressing that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted regardless of when the offence was committed.

The bureau also urged the public to continue reporting suspected corruption cases, as part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability and combat graft in public service.
