Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United has travelled to Rwanda for an eight-day pre-season camp as it steps up preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The Nairobi-based club is scheduled to stay in Rwanda from August 12 to 19, during which it will play a series of friendly matches against Rwandan top-flight teams.
The camp is intended to give the Kenyan side an opportunity to build match fitness, assess its squad and fine-tune preparations ahead of the new season.
Mathare United endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, finishing 14th in the 18-team Kenyan Premier League and narrowly avoiding relegation.
The club is now seeking a stronger campaign in the new season, with the Kigali camp forming part of its preparations.
Mathare United is the latest regional club to choose Rwanda for pre-season preparations. Tanzanian side Azam FC and South Sudan’s Jamus SC have also held training camps in the country.
Sudanese giants Al Hilal and Al Merrikh are likewise in Rwanda and are expected to compete in the Rwanda Premier League again, following their participation in the competition last season.
The growing number of regional clubs using Rwanda for pre-season camps reflects the country’s increasing role as a training and competition destination for football teams in the region.
