Rwanda’s Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, has congratulated RSSB Tigers after the team secured its first victory at the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Beijing, China.
RSSB Tigers defeated China’s Shanghai Sharks 117-115 on Wednesday, September 23, in a closely contested Group A match.
“Congratulations, RSSB Tigers! Keep up the momentum. Stay strong, compete and do not give up as you take another step forward. We are all behind you,” Mukazayire said in a message posted on X.
She added: “Well done, RSSB Tigers! Keep it up. We wish you success in the next stage. Thank you.”
RSSB Tigers are representing Africa at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup after winning this year’s Basketball Africa League title.
The Rwandan side opened its campaign with a defeat to Lithuania’s Rytas Vilnius, which represents Europe, before recovering with the win over Shanghai Sharks in its second and final group-stage match.
The top two teams in Group A will advance to the semi-finals, meaning RSSB Tigers must wait for the result of the Rytas Vilnius-Shanghai Sharks game to determine the final group standings.
The game is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at 9:30 a.m. Kigali time.
