The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has confirmed that ongoing investigations into Rwandan musician Uworizagwira Florien, popularly known as Yampano, have resulted in seven criminal charges being brought against him.

Yampano was arrested on May 16, 2026, following a complaint filed on May 11, 2026, relating to allegations of assault and battery against a woman he was reportedly living with in an informal union.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is accused of repeatedly assaulting the woman, causing bodily harm, and unlawfully confining her in a house in an attempt to prevent her from reporting the abuse to authorities.

RIB stated that the charges include intentional assault and battery, threats, destruction of property, drug use, use of discriminatory language, unlawful confinement, and attempted murder.

Investigators further allege that in one incident, Yampano attempted to hit the woman with a vehicle while she was riding a motorcycle, following threats that he would kill her.

The complainant, who had been cohabiting with the suspect without formal marriage, reported the matter to authorities, triggering the investigation.

Yampano remains in custody at Kicukiro RIB station as his case file is being prepared for submission to the Prosecution.
