Japan’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Kazuya Nakajo, and Qatar’s Ambassador, Mansour Bin Ali Fahad Al Shahwani Al Hajri, have pledged to reinforce diplomatic relations and expand trade and investment between their countries and Rwanda.

The announcements came following their meetings with President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, during which they presented their credentials to officially assume their roles.

Ambassador Nakajo, based in Kigali, emphasized that his mission will focus on deepening the longstanding relationship between Japan and Rwanda. “I am committed to expanding cooperation in all sectors, from economic and trade partnerships to cultural exchange and knowledge sharing between our peoples,” he said.

Ambassador Mansour, also based in Kigali, highlighted discussions with the President on enhancing ongoing cooperation between Qatar and Rwanda. “Our talks focused on strengthening existing bilateral ties, which continue to show progress across multiple sectors, reflecting the special relationship between our countries,” he said.

He added that immediate attention will be given to existing joint projects, including the Bugesera International Airport construction and investments in aviation infrastructure. “We will first focus on completing current projects, then explore future investment opportunities,” he said.

Rwanda already maintains strong ties with Qatar in tourism and air transport, while Japan collaborates with Rwanda in trade, technology, and innovation.
