Ngoma: Nine killed by lightning laid to rest in dignified burial

Nine people who lost their lives after being struck by lightning on Sunday evening, January 5, 2026, were laid to rest on Monday, January 6, in a dignified burial at a cemetery in Sake Sector, Ngoma District.

The burial ceremony was attended by senior leaders from the Eastern Province, including Governor Pudence Rubingisa, members of the province’s extended security committee, Ngoma District officials, and families mourning their loved ones.

The fatal lightning strike occurred in Jarama Sector, where nine people were killed and 12 others injured. 

Local authorities said all those injured received medical treatment and have since recovered.
