In Busasamana Sector, Nyanza District, two men have been detained on suspicion of killing a woman reportedly engaged in sex work, with early reports indicating she may have been assaulted and killed in her home.
The incident occurred in Kigarama Village, Busasamana Sector, in an area locally known as “Kuri 40.” Neighbors who discovered the body told UMUNOTA that the woman had blood around her mouth and nose, with empty alcohol bottles found nearby.
The deceased, identified as Uwamahoro Alphonsine, around 30 years old, was known to frequent local bars and socialize with men as part of her work. Authorities suspect that one of the men she interacted with may have been involved in her death.
The body was discovered around 6:00 pm on March 8, 2026, when neighbors noticed unusual activity at her home and alerted the Police and Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB). Officials forced entry and began collecting initial evidence.
Busasamana Sector Executive Secretary, Bizimana Egide, confirmed that authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible.
“Authorities with the mandate to investigate have started inquiries to establish how she died and who is responsible,” Bizimana said.
Currently, RIB has detained two suspects connected to the case. The deceased reportedly left behind a young child.
The case underscores concerns about violence against women in vulnerable situations, prompting authorities to pursue a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served.
