Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr Justin Nsengiyumva, on Tuesday represented President Paul Kagame at the inauguration ceremony of Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who officially began his seventh term in office.
The ceremony was held on May 12, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala and brought together several African heads of state and senior government officials from across the continent.
President Museveni was sworn in for another five-year term set to run until 2031, following his victory in the January 2026 presidential election in which he secured 7,946,772 votes, equivalent to 71.6% of the total votes cast.
In his address, Museveni paid tribute to leaders and institutions that contributed to Uganda’s reconstruction, particularly commending the role of the country’s military in maintaining stability and national development.
The event also featured presentations highlighting Uganda’s socio-economic progress achieved during Museveni’s tenure, including infrastructure development and improvements in citizens’ livelihoods.
Museveni concluded by urging Ugandans to remain committed to national unity, economic transformation and the country’s long-term development agenda.
