The Rwanda National Police in Kigali has confirmed that a woman captured in a viral video striking her husband will face legal action.

The footage, which circulated on social media over the weekend, shows the woman, who had a child with her, questioning her husband about why he had not gone to work before slapping him. The husband remained calm and refrained from retaliating, describing the incident as “a one-time mistake.”

The woman, visibly angry, was surrounded by bystanders, including professional security personnel. Police have now located her and will follow up formally.

CIP Gahonzire Wellars, the Kigali police spokesperson, said, “When a wife hits her husband, we intervene. We have identified where it happened. Most of these incidents are linked to alcohol consumption.”

Social media users condemned the act, labeling it domestic abuse and calling for accountability, with many urging authorities to take appropriate action.
