President Paul Kagame has met with the outgoing European Union (EU) Ambassador to Rwanda, Belén Calvo Uyarra, as she concludes her four-year diplomatic mission in the country.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at Village Urugwiro, where President Kagame and Ambassador Calvo Uyarra discussed the progress made in Rwanda-EU relations and the future of cooperation between the two sides.
According to the Office of the President, the talks focused on areas where Rwanda and the EU have strengthened collaboration, including vaccine manufacturing, peace support initiatives, responsible mining and the management of critical minerals, infrastructure development, investment, education and environmental protection.
The meeting also highlighted the continued partnership between Rwanda and the EU in sectors such as trade, development, governance, security and climate action.
Ambassador Calvo Uyarra has served as the EU representative in Rwanda since September 2022, during which time the two sides continued to expand cooperation on shared priorities.
Following the completion of her assignment, she will be succeeded by Jérémie Blin, a French diplomat appointed as the new EU Ambassador to Rwanda, with residence in Kigali.
The leadership transition comes as Rwanda and the European Union continue to strengthen diplomatic and development ties, with a focus on economic cooperation, sustainable development and regional stability.
