President Paul Kagame met with Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), on Friday evening, January 16, 2026, in Conakry, Guinea. The discussions focused on strengthening Rwanda’s ongoing partnership with AfDB and advancing the country’s sustainable development initiatives.
The meeting took place ahead of the inauguration of Guinea’s President Mamadi Doumbouya, scheduled for Saturday, which President Kagame attended as a guest of honor.
AfDB has been a key development partner for Rwanda since it began operations in the country in 1974. Over the decades, the bank has invested heavily in infrastructure, including roads, power, and industrial projects. In 2014, AfDB provided Rwanda with a $40 million loan to expand electricity access, including the construction of a 119-kilometer power line.
Recently, AfDB has also increased investments in agricultural development, supporting Rwanda’s efforts to boost food security and promote sustainable growth. The meeting underscores the bank’s ongoing commitment to partnering with Rwanda in achieving its long-term development goals.
