Rwandan President Paul Kagame has promised government support to the Muslim community to improve infrastructure and social welfare, assuring that long-standing challenges will soon be addressed.
The pledge came on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, during discussions with Muslim leaders from across the country, held as part of Eid al-Fitr celebrations marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
President Kagame acknowledged the community’s contributions to national development, praising their progress and continued efforts to enhance the welfare of both their communities and the wider population. He emphasized that government institutions are responsible for facilitating support, which will be delivered promptly.
He also noted that some previous commitments, including land allocations for community facilities, had not yet been realized, and described these as obligations the government is committed to fulfilling.
Rwanda’s Mufti, Sheikh Sindayigaya Mussa, presented major projects planned by the Muslim community to align with NST2 goals, including the Islamic Cultural Center Hub in Kigali. This hub will feature a National Mosque for worshippers and visiting dignitaries, the central Islamic headquarters, a community health center, commercial buildings to generate revenue for social programs, recreational parks, and other public facilities.
The initiative highlights the government’s commitment to supporting faith communities in driving national development through collaboration and impactful projects.
