The Prosecution has applied for a 30-day provisional detention order against Shema Arnaud, popularly known as DJ Toxxyk, in connection with a fatal road traffic incident.
Appearing before the Nyarugenge Primary Court on Wednesday, January 13, 2026, the suspect responded to multiple charges, including causing a fatal traffic accident, involuntary manslaughter, and failure to stop and render assistance after the incident. He denied allegations related to drug use.
In court, DJ Toxxyk acknowledged involvement in a road accident that resulted in the death of a police officer who was on duty at the time. He stated that the incident was unintentional and admitted leaving the scene afterward.
The Prosecution further alleged that prohibited substances were recovered during a search conducted at the suspect’s residence by security agencies. However, the accused rejected the claim, maintaining that he does not use illicit drugs. He also denied refusing to undergo an alcohol breath test, as alleged by investigators.
The Prosecution argued that provisional detention is necessary to facilitate ongoing investigations and prevent possible interference with evidence.
The court is scheduled to deliver its ruling on the application for provisional detention on Wednesday, January 21, 2025.
According to case records, DJ Toxxyk was arrested on December 21, 2025, following an early-morning traffic incident in which a police officer sustained fatal injuries. The suspect reportedly fled the scene and was later apprehended in Karongi District.
