Rwanda’s representatives in continental football, Rayon Sports FC and APR FC, have been eliminated from their respective CAF competitions after failing to advance to the group stages.
Both clubs played their second-leg matches in the second qualifying round on Saturday, October 24, 2026, but could not overturn defeats suffered in the first legs in Kigali.
Rayon Sports, competing in the CAF Confederation Cup, were eliminated by Mozambique’s Black Bulls on a 4-2 aggregate score.
The Rwandan side drew 2-2 in the return leg at Largy Arena in Mozambique, after losing the first leg 2-0 in Kigali. Iradukunda Elie Taou and Muderi Akbar scored Rayon Sports’ goals in the return match.
APR FC, who were competing in the CAF Champions League, were eliminated by Egypt’s Zamalek SC, losing 2-0 on aggregate across the two legs.
APR FC lost the return leg 1-0 in Cairo, adding to the 1-0 defeat they suffered in Kigali in the first leg.
The result means APR FC’s long-standing pursuit of a place in the CAF Champions League group stage remains unfulfilled. Rayon Sports, meanwhile, have not returned to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage since their appearance in 2018.
The eliminations disappointed supporters of both clubs, although the teams had sought to strengthen their squads ahead of the continental campaigns.
Both sides will now return to Kigali to focus on the Rwanda Premier League, known as the BK Pro League.
APR FC are scheduled to visit Bugesera FC on October 27, while Rayon Sports will host Mukura VS&L on October 28, 2026.
