The Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Jean-Guy K. Afrika, on March 3, 2026, received Qatar’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Mansoor Ali Al-Hajri, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding investment opportunities.

According to RDB, the discussions focused on deepening existing partnerships and exploring new avenues for economic collaboration that would benefit both countries.

Ambassador Al-Hajri assumed his role in early 2026 after presenting credentials to President Paul Kagame on January 14, 2026, succeeding the late Misfer bin Faisal Al-Shahwani, who passed away in July 2024.

Qatar’s embassy in Rwanda, established in 2021, marks five years of formal diplomatic engagement, during which the two countries have strengthened ties in trade, investment, and transport. Qatar Airways holds a 60% stake in the Bugesera International Airport project, and collaborates with RwandAir on other initiatives.

The partnership prioritizes development, security, and tourism, including visa exemptions for citizens, reflecting a broader commitment to facilitating business and investment flows.

The meeting underscores Rwanda and Qatar’s ongoing efforts to enhance economic cooperation, attract investors, and support sustainable development across multiple sectors.
