Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has stepped up support for its men’s and women’s basketball teams as they prepare for the upcoming Rwanda Basketball League playoffs.
REG Chief Executive Officer Eng. Maximilien Byilingiro, alongside officials from the company’s basketball teams, visited both squads on Thursday evening, July 30, during their training session at the REG Gymnasium at Ecole Technique St Joseph de Nyamirambo in Kigali.
The visit was aimed at encouraging the players and technical staff as they enter the decisive stage of the season, with the teams competing for a place in the league finals.
In the men’s category, REG BBC will face Patriots BBC in the playoff semi-finals after finishing third in the regular season standings. The team is coached by Odaudu Ogoh.
The playoffs are set to begin on August 5, 2026.
REG BBC finished as runners-up last season after losing the final to APR BBC. The team’s last Rwanda Basketball League title came in 2022, the same year it last featured in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
In the women’s competition, REG W BBC heads into the playoffs as the regular-season leader after completing the campaign unbeaten. The team will face fourth-placed The Hoops in the semi-finals.
REG W BBC is seeking to defend its title after defeating Kepler W BBC in last year’s final. The team has won the last two Rwanda Basketball League championships and remains one of the country’s strongest women’s basketball sides.
