Rwanda and France have signed two cooperation agreements, including one on migration management and another aimed at easing employment opportunities for family members of diplomatic staff posted in both countries.
The agreements were signed on June 3, 2026, and announced by the Embassy of Rwanda in France.
On the Rwandan side, the agreements were signed by Ambassador François Nkulikiyimfura. France was represented by its Ambassador to Rwanda, Aurélie Roussel-Garneau, alongside Laurent Touvet, Director General for Foreign Nationals at France’s Ministry of the Interior.
Officials from both countries said the agreements are intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation and improve coordination on mobility and diplomatic-related employment issues.
The latest development reflects continued efforts by Kigali and Paris to deepen ties after years of strained relations.
A significant milestone in the normalization process was the opening of the Genocide Memorial in Paris dedicated to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which marked a symbolic step in improving historical and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Relations between Rwanda and France have steadily expanded in recent years, with cooperation spanning justice, trade, diplomacy, energy, technology and education.
The new agreements are expected to further consolidate collaboration between the two countries in areas of mobility and consular affairs.
