Rwanda’s national handball team finished 12th out of 16 teams at the African Handball Championship, moving up from 14th place in 2024.
The team narrowly lost 30-28 to the Republic of Congo on Friday, January 30, 2026, at BK Arena. Placed in Group A with Algeria, Nigeria, and Zambia, Rwanda’s only group-stage win came against Zambia, 30-19, but it fell to Algeria (46-25) and Nigeria (30-20).
In classification rounds, Rwanda defeated Zambia and Uganda but lost to Gabon and Congo-Brazzaville, securing 12th place ahead of Benin, Zambia, Kenya, and Uganda. The championship final is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, with Egypt facing Tunisia.
