Rwanda and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation as senior officials from both countries meet in New Delhi for the second session of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee.

The Rwandan delegation, led by Brig Gen Louis Kanobayire, Director General in charge of Training and Education in the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), is participating in discussions focused on expanding collaboration in areas of shared interest.

The meeting builds on the Defence Cooperation Agreement signed by Rwanda and India in 2018 and follows the first Joint Defence Cooperation Committee meeting held in Kigali in 2024.

During the visit, Brig Gen Kanobayire also held discussions with Rajesh Kumar Singh, Permanent Secretary at India’s Ministry of Defence, as both sides explored ways to further strengthen defence ties.

The engagement comes as Rwanda and India continue to expand bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including security, education, trade, technology and culture.

The two countries have maintained close diplomatic relations, with defence cooperation forming part of broader efforts to enhance strategic partnerships and capacity building.
