Rwanda has sent a 15-member cycling team to Montreal, Canada, to compete in the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, scheduled for September 20-27.
Before the team’s departure, Rwanda Cycling Federation vice president Clement Makuza handed the national flag to the riders and officials representing the country at the championships.
The Rwandan delegation includes riders competing across elite, under-23 and junior categories for both men and women.
In the men’s elite category, Rwanda will be represented by Shemu Nsengiyumva and Samuel Niyonkuru. The under-23 team includes Kevin Nshutiraguma and Shadrack Ufitimana.
In the junior men’s category, Rwanda will field Jonathan Muhawenimana, Pacifique Byusa, Bryan Ishimwe and Jackson Nkurikiyinka.
Diane Ingabire, Xaverine Nirere and Claudette Nyirarakundo will compete in the women’s elite category.
In the women’s under-23 category, Rwanda will be represented by Marirate Byukusenge and Jazilla Mwamikazi, while Donatha Akimana and Yvonne Masenghesho will compete in the junior category.
The 15 riders were selected following a training camp at the UCI Regional Satellite Centre in Musanze.
The championships in Montreal will bring together cyclists from countries around the world across various categories and events.
