Rwanda is set to host the launch of the Africa Food Systems (AFS) Forum, marking two decades of the continent’s efforts to strengthen food security and transform agricultural systems.
The launch event is scheduled for March 31, 2026, at the Kigali Convention Center, according to announcements from the AFS Forum organizers on their official social media channels. The full forum is expected to take place later in September 2026.
Organizers said the launch will highlight Africa’s significant progress over the past 20 years in improving agricultural productivity, food systems, and sustainable development, while setting the stage for the main forum discussions.
The Africa Food Systems Forum brings together global leaders, innovators, university researchers, development organizations, farmer networks, and private sector representatives from across the continent and beyond.
This year’s discussions will focus on investing in Africa’s agriculture and food systems, emphasizing feeding nations, creating jobs, and building resilience. Participants will showcase innovations, technologies, policy solutions, and model business and investment initiatives aimed at accelerating the continent’s food systems.
The forum will also underscore the critical role of youth and women in advancing agricultural development. With 2026 designated by the United Nations as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, gender-inclusive participation will remain a central theme.
The event is organized by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa in partnership with the Government of Rwanda. Rwanda last hosted the AFS Forum in 2024, and the 2026 edition is expected to further reinforce the country’s role as a hub for agricultural innovation and policy leadership in Africa.
We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the AFS Forum 2026 Summit, marking a monumental milestone: Celebrating 20 years of Food Systems Transformation in Africa.
