Rwanda has begun a three-day training programme for police officers preparing to serve under the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), bringing together personnel from five countries to strengthen regional readiness for peace support operations.
The training opened on September 14, 2026, at Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kigali and is attended by police officers from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, officially opened the training.
The programme is intended to equip officers preparing for EASF deployments with the operational knowledge, professional skills and guidance needed to perform effectively in regional peace support missions.
It covers both political and technical aspects of deployment and is designed to strengthen participants’ preparedness for the responsibilities they may face while serving in EASF operations.
The training also emphasizes compliance with the principles and standards of the African Union and the United Nations governing peacekeeping and peace support operations.
The initiative forms part of broader regional efforts to maintain a trained and ready standby capacity capable of responding to peace and security challenges in Eastern Africa.
