Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, has announced the resumption of its domestic flights between Kigali and Kamembe in Rusizi District.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the airline said flights from Kigali International Airport to Kamembe Airport will officially resume on March 23, 2026.
RwandAir indicated that return ticket fares will start from $99 (approximately Rwf 140,000), positioning the route as an affordable and time-saving option for travelers.
The Kigali–Kamembe route is considered strategic in connecting passengers to Rwanda’s Western Province, home to key tourism attractions such as Lake Kivu and Nyungwe National Park. The flights serve both business and leisure travelers seeking faster access to the region.
The service also plays a vital role in facilitating movement for passengers traveling to western Rwanda and those crossing into the Democratic Republic of the Congo via the Rusizi border.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, more than 30,000 passengers traveled by air between Kigali and Kamembe in 2024, an increase of nearly 8,000 compared to 22,519 recorded in 2023—highlighting growing demand for domestic air connectivity.
