Rwandan troops serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the city of Bria, Central African Republic (CAR), were awarded UN medals on January 7, 2026, in recognition of their dedication and professionalism in maintaining peace and security in the country.

The medals were presented to members of Rwanda Battle Group VII (RWABG VII) and the Rwanda Level II+ Military Hospital (RWAMED X), both deployed under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The medal ceremony was held at the RWABG VII base in Bria, located in the Haute-Kotto Prefecture.

The event was presided over by the Deputy Force Commander of MINUSCA, Major General Maychel Asmi, who commended the Rwandan contingent for its professionalism, discipline, and exemplary execution of assigned duties.

He particularly highlighted their significant contribution to maintaining security during the country’s electoral processes.

Major General Asmi praised RWABG VII for its role in securing the areas of Bria, Ouadda, and Sam-Ouandja, and commended RWAMED X for its commitment to providing essential medical services to UN personnel and local civilians.

Lieutenant Colonel Willy Ntagara, Commander of RWABG VII, described the medal award as a source of pride in the military profession.

He noted that the recognition serves as motivation for the troops to continue carrying out their peacekeeping responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.

The Commander of RWAMED X, Colonel Dr. Simon R. Nyagasaza, highlighted the significant progress made by the Rwanda Level II+ Hospital since its deployment in January 2025.

He said the hospital has provided medical services to MINUSCA personnel and civilians, thereby contributing meaningfully to the successful implementation of MINUSCA’s mandate.

The ceremony was attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Olivier Kayumba, senior officers from other contingents serving in CAR, MINUSCA leadership, and other invited guests.
