Eighteen Rwandan referees have been officially awarded FIFA badges, authorizing them to officiate at international football matches in the 2026 season.

The badges were presented on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by FERWAFA Secretary General Bonnie Mugabe, who congratulated the referees and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity, and exemplary conduct as representatives of Rwanda on the global stage.

The ceremony recognized male and female referees for center officiating, assistant refereeing, and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties, highlighting Rwanda’s growing expertise in modern football technology.

Center referees for men include Twagirumukiza Abdoul Karim, Ishimwe Jean Claude, Uwikunda Samuel, Rulisa Patience Fidèle, and Nsabimana Célestin. Female center referees are Umutoni Aline and Byukusenge Henriette.

Assistant referees for men are Ndayisaba Saïd Hamisi, Mugabo Eric, Karangwa Justin, Mutuyimana Dieudonné, Ishimwe Didier, and Habumugisha Emmanuel. Female assistants include Murangwa Usenga Sandrine, Umutesi Alice, Mukayirangwa Régine, and Akimana Juliette. Mukansanga Salima Rhadia received accreditation to operate VAR.

FERWAFA said the achievement underscores Rwanda’s commitment to developing referees with the skills and technology knowledge needed to perform at the highest levels of international football.
