Rwanda’s women’s national tennis team will begin its campaign at the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group IV tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with promotion to Group III in 2027 as the main target.
The tournament will run from August 12 to 15, bringing together teams competing for promotion to Africa Group III.
Rwanda has been drawn in Group B alongside Ethiopia, Benin, Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire and Lesotho.
Coach Uwamahoro Bimenyimana Eric has named four players for Rwanda’s campaign: Umumararungu Gisèle, Tuyishimire Rona, Nishimwe Carine and Tuyishime Sonia.
Group A features Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Seychelles, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
The teams will compete in their respective groups, with the winners advancing to the promotion stage. The teams that emerge from the decisive promotion matches will earn places in Africa Group III for 2027.
Rwanda will be looking to improve on its performance in the 2025 edition, which was hosted in Kigali.
The Rwandan team finished third in that tournament, behind champions Cameroon and runners-up Togo, missing out on promotion to Group III.
The Abidjan tournament gives Rwanda another opportunity to move up the African tennis rankings and secure promotion after falling short on home soil last year.
