Tensions deepen within RNC as leadership disputes and internal rifts emerge

Tensions are reported to be deepening within the leadership of the Rwanda National Congress (RNC), with growing allegations of mistrust, factionalism, and internal power struggles among senior members.

Sources within the group say the organisation has in recent weeks been grappling with disagreements over leadership control, accusations of misconduct, and disputes linked to the management of resources and operational tools allegedly used in its activities.

At the centre of the latest controversy is a YouTube platform formerly known as Itahuka Radio, which was reportedly rebranded as Itahuka Media Network. Some members allege that administrative credentials were altered, effectively locking out certain individuals from accessing or managing the channel.

The developments are said to have followed a dispute between Serge Ndayizeye and Jean Paul Turayishimye over control and use of the platform, with each side accusing the other of attempting to take unilateral control.

Former members and insiders claim the dispute reflects deeper, long-standing structural weaknesses within the RNC, including leadership rivalries, allegations of favouritism, and an absence of a unified political strategy.

Reports also suggest widening divisions among senior figures who once worked closely together, leading to emerging internal blocs within the organisation, although these claims have not been independently verified.

Dr. Emmanuel Hakizimana, described as RNC coordinator and reportedly aligned with the leadership of Kayumba Nyamwasa, is said to have issued a letter suspending Serge Ndayizeye. However, the circumstances surrounding the decision remain unclear, and no official documentation has been made public.

Allegations have also resurfaced regarding funds collected from members across various countries, though these claims have not been independently substantiated and have not been addressed publicly by the group’s leadership.

Analysts say the ongoing disputes point to deeper governance and cohesion challenges within the RNC, which has for years faced internal disagreements over direction and leadership legitimacy.

The RNC leadership has not yet issued an official response to the latest allegations, leaving the situation uncertain as internal tensions continue to unfold.
