The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested two young men who were captured in a viral social media video assaulting a young woman in the street.

According to information obtained by UMUNOTA, the incident occurred in broad daylight in Musanze town on the morning of Sunday, March 1, 2026. The footage, which circulated widely online on Monday, March 2, 2026, shows the men beating the woman, stepping on her and dragging her by the hair as she lay on the ground.

RIB confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the case file will be forwarded to the Prosecution once inquiries are complete.

Rwanda National Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga also confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are currently detained at Muhoza Police Station in Musanze District.

“The individuals seen in the video have been arrested and are detained at Muhoza Police Station. We thank members of the public who provided information,” ACP Rutikanga said in a statement posted on X.

Under Rwandan law, the offense of assault and battery carries a prison sentence ranging from three to five years, along with a fine of not less than Rwf 500,000 and not exceeding Rwf 1 million.

Authorities have urged the public to report acts of violence and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
