Uganda police have reported that two Rwandans died in a bus accident involving a Trinity Express passenger bus with registration number RAT 597K, traveling from Kampala to Kigali.

The accident occurred on Monday, December 15, 2025, around 8:30 a.m. local time in Rukiga District, southwestern Uganda, leaving three people dead, including two Rwandans.

According to Rukiga police, those who died are John Herbert Lubwama, 26, from Kanyanya in Wakiso District, Uganda; Alfred Habineza, 30, a Rwandan bus driver; and another Rwandan driver named Gadaffi.

Uganda police further reported that Ananias Habiyaremye, a 44-year-old Rwandan bus driver, was injured along with three female passengers whose identities are not yet known.

ASP Elly Maate, spokesperson for Rukiga District police, said the accident occurred on the Kampaka-Kigali road when the bus reached the Bukinda–Kakatunda section on the main Kabale–Mbarara highway and veered off the road.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by brake failure, which caused the bus to veer off the road and fall into a water ditch.

Police added that seven people were injured, while the deceased and the injured were taken to Kabale Hospital for treatment.
