Popular Rwandan actress Nyirabagande Drocelle Fridaus, widely known as Langwida for her iconic role in the long-running radio drama Urunana, has died at the age of 64 following an illness.

The news of her passing was confirmed on Sunday, June 7, 2026, by the management of Urunana Development Communication, the organization behind one of Rwanda’s most influential and enduring radio dramas.

According to reports, the veteran actress died at her home. Although she had reportedly been battling high blood pressure, it has not been officially confirmed whether the condition caused her death.

Langwida was among the longest-serving cast members of Urunana, a drama series that has entertained and educated Rwandans for decades. Her character became a household name, known for being suspicious, outspoken, and frequently involved in the affairs of others—traits that endeared her to audiences across the country.

Her body is currently being kept at Rwampara Health Centre in Nyamirambo Sector, Nyarugenge District.

Despite portraying a controversial and often troublesome character on air, Langwida was admired off-screen for her warmth and dedication. In previous media interviews, she noted that her acting role never affected her relationship with the public, adding that many people appreciated her contribution to promoting positive social values through drama.

A devoted Muslim, Langwida leaves behind four children.

Her death marks the loss of one of Rwanda’s most recognizable radio drama personalities, whose talent and dedication helped shape Urunana into a beloved national institution.

Langwida had been a cast member of the popular radio drama Urunana for more than 20 years.
