President Paul Kagame has urged Rwandan youth to channel their energy into national development while upholding strong values.
He delivered the message on Monday evening, December 29, 2025, during the annual New Year address to Rwandans.
As is customary, President Kagame hosted Rwandans and friends of Rwanda from different backgrounds to extend New Year wishes.
The event was attended by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, government leaders, youth representatives, and other invited guests.
Addressing the youth, the President emphasized that they constitute the backbone of the nation and must recognize their responsibility in shaping Rwanda’s future.
He noted that nearly three-quarters of Rwanda’s population is youthful, describing this demographic reality as a powerful asset for the country.
The Head of State called on young people to make productive use of this strength by engaging in meaningful work rooted in national values, work that contributes both to their personal development and to the country’s progress.
He stressed that national transformation begins with individual growth, underscoring that Rwanda cannot be built without young people first investing in their own skills, discipline, and character.
Rwanda’s youth continue to attract national attention not only because of their numbers, over 75 percent of the population is under the age of 35, but also because of their central role in the economy, leadership, technology, and overall development.
As the country’s future leaders, the youth are expected to be nurtured with strong values, patriotism, and a commitment to actively participate in Rwanda’s development journey.
