Rwandan President Paul Kagame has arrived in Washington, D.C., where he is scheduled to meet with President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the signing of a landmark peace and economic cooperation agreement.

President Kagame landed in the U.S. capital on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, ahead of Thursday’s high-level ceremony.

The two neighboring countries are expected to formalize accords aimed at ending years of tension and conflict in the eastern DRC. The agreements also include provisions for strengthening bilateral economic relations.

The signing event, set for Thursday, December 4, will be attended by several regional and international leaders. U.S. President Donald Trump, who described the deal as “the final step” in a long diplomatic process, is expected to preside over the ceremony.

Kenyan President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, who currently chairs the East African Community (EAC), and Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye both arrived in Washington on December 2nd to participate in the proceedings.

The ceremony will also bring together representatives from Qatar, acting as a mediator between the DRC and the AFC/M23 coalition, as well as diplomats from Togo, which has facilitated dialogue between Rwanda and the DRC. Officials from the African Union (AU) are also set to attend, highlighting the continental significance of the agreement.
